David Moritz for Asheville City Council

Hello, my name is David Moritz, and I’m running for Asheville City Council because I love this city and want to help make it the best small city in America.

Asheville needs to return to pragmatic leadership, not performative politics. My priorities are infrastructure, housing, public safety, and a strong, responsible economy—and I bring real-world experience to each of them.

I’m a mechanical engineer who began my career working on infrastructure projects, including two years helping build an oil refinery in Venezuela. Asheville is preparing to spend over a billion dollars on infrastructure, and we need leaders who understand how these systems actually work—especially our stormwater system, which must be a top priority.

On housing, I’ve spent 25 years in real estate, hold an MBA focused on finance and real estate, and for the past 12 years have run my own development company. I’ve built housing, warehouses, and renovated buildings downtown. We need to build more housing where infrastructure already exists.

Public safety is a core responsibility of government. Over the past two years, I’ve experienced what it feels like to be unsafe and have stood up against hate and political violence. There is no place for that in Asheville.

Finally, on the economy: I run a small business. I understand budgets, accountability, and respecting taxpayer dollars. I promise to treat the city’s budget like it’s my own.

I hope to earn your support and bring common sense back to City Hall. Thank you.
